See The Lake from A New View

If you want to see Lake of the Ozarks from a different perspective, take your boat through this unique aquatic trail. This trail is only accessible by water, so it is recommended that you grab a trail guide from the various locations throughout the Lake of the Ozarks State Park before launching out onto the lake. This is a nearly ten-mile trail or about a two-hour boating excursion that will take you through the natural beauty of the Ozarks.

Stops Along the Way

There are many stops along the way to view woodlands, glades, streams and geological structures. Buoys are placed at the 14 various stops between the Grand Glaize Beach and the main campground (or Public Beach #1). Each stop provides information about what boaters can see like the Lumberman’s Logging Chute, a gap in the bluff which was used to push railroad ties down into Grand Glaize Creek.

Get Your Boat Serviced at Iguana!

If you have recently bought a new or used boat at the Lake of the Ozarks, you may be wondering how to properly take care of it. Proper maintenance of your boat is important. Just like with a car, boats need to be serviced and maintained regularly. Fortunately, the best boat dealer in Missouri offers service and maintenance for boats at the Lake of the Ozarks. However, there are still things that you should look out for and do for your boat between your routine services:

Wash Your Boat

Regularly washing your boat with soap and cleaners made specifically for boats is important in order to protect your boat’s finish. Luckily, the Lake of the Ozarks has fresh water, but if you happen to take your boat to a salt water location, make sure to clean it with fresh water after every outing to remove the salt residue. If left on, salt will corrode metal, fasteners and other hardware. It will also ruin the gel coat.

Change Oil

Just like with a car, boats need to have their oil changed. The frequency varies by model, but typically you will want to change it every 12 months or every 100 hours – whichever comes first. Also like a car, you can change the oil yourself, or you could just bring it to Iguana! If you do not know how to change your boat’s oil or if you just don’t want to deal with the mess it creates, bring it to the best boat service crew at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Check the Propeller

If you have an outboard or stern drive boat, it is a good idea to check the propeller as part of your pre-launch routine. Check to make sure that discarded fishing line hasn’t been wrapped around the propeller shaft by removing the propeller several times during the season. If you discover that it has, inspect for damage as it could cause gear case leaks. If you do find issues, bring your boat to Lake of the Ozarks’ boat service shop and we’ll get you back on the water in no time.

Iguana Services Offered:

Should You Rent or Own a Boat?

Boating is a very popular activity at the Lake of the Ozarks. If you are out on the water often, it may have come across your mind to own your own boat. However, there are pros and cons to both renting and owning a boat. Iguana Boat Sales has listed these to help make your decision easier.

Pros of Renting a Boat

  • Initial Purchase Price -This one is the obvious one. There is no initial heavy expense like there is when you buy a boat.

  • No Commitment - If you have not decided if the boating lifestyle is for you, then this is the biggest advantage. Renting allows you to get your feet wet.

  • No Regular Maintenance Having regular maintenance on your boat could add up. In addition to no service maintenance, you won’t have to clean your boat after every use.

  • Traveling is Easy - If you do not live near the Lake, renting may be for you. Enjoy time on the Lake without the hassle of trailers.

  • No Storing Necessary If you don’t have a place to store your boat at home, off-season storage can become quite an expense.

Cons of Renting a Boat

  • Long-Term Cost Renting may seem cheaper, but you could end up spending more money by renting if you do it often.

  • No Feeling of Ownership Although you have tested the waters with renting, you will never truly understand what it means to own your own boat since you return it when you’re done.

  • Hauling Gear Whether it’s water skis, fishing poles or anything else you take out on the boat, you will have to haul it in and out of the boat each trip. The more often you transport your items the greater the chance you have of breaking or losing them.

  • Availability Issues If you decide to take a last minute trip to the Lake, you may run into the issue of everything being rented out. This is especially true if you want to go out on busy weekends such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day.

Pros of Owning a Boat

  • Out on the Water Often If you are going to be using your boat a lot, then buying is the way to go.

  • Never Having to Wait If you want to go out on the water at the last minute, you can! You will never have to worry about availability.

  • It’s Yours! If you are into fishing or any other water activity, your boat can be the perfect fit for you. If you rent you are limited to their selection, which may not be a good fit for the activity you are wanting to do.

  • Know the Condition You know how well kept your boat is if you own it. You know when the last time it was serviced and checked. If you rent, you do not know this information. The last thing you want on your boating trip is to break down.

Cons to Owning a Boat

  • Price The initial price point is going to be much larger than renting, but if you use it enough then it may end up being the cheaper option.

  • Maintenance Maintenance on a boat can be time consuming and expensive.

  • Storage During the off season, you will need to be able to store the boat and that’s just one more expense.
