Wakeboard, Wakeskate, Wakesurf - What's the Difference?

Watersports have always been a staple for many boaters and lake goers. Traditional sports including water skiing and wakeboarding. In recent years, wakeskating and wakesurfing have become more and more popular. It's always fun to try a new watersport as you spend time on the water! If you are wondering what the difference between these three watersports is, you're in the right place! Iguana Boat Sales has provided some insider information to help you distinguish the difference and decide which watersport you're going to try out first!

The Breakdown:

Wakeboard
A wakeboard is a wide piece of fiberglass with built-in shoes. To get up, you have the board strapped on to your feet and place to board horizontal to the edge of the water and hold on to the rope. Once you are starting to pop out of the water, you pivot your hips and turn the board parallel. From this point, you can shift your weight and lean to move around on the water.

Wakeskate
Wakeskating is similar to skateboarding - just on water. A narrow board is used to skate on top of the water. Many wakeskaters will use street shoes just like they would on a skateboard. The board resembles an overside skateboard but is still more narrow than a wakeboard or wakesurf board. This narrow board helps you perform similar tricks as you could on land. You get up on a wakeskate similar to a wakeboard.

Wakesurf
Wakesufing is similar to surfing expect you let the boat's wake push you instead of an ocean wave. You get up on the water like you would with a wakeboard or wakeskate, only a shorter rope is used. After you get up, you drop the rope - unlike the other two options. At this point the boat is not pulling you forward - like with wakeboarding or wakeskating, the boat's wake is pushing you forward.

Wakeboarding Boats for Sale:

For all of these watersports, it's best to have a wakeboarding style boat. The elevated tow point helps pull you up out of the water. The tucked propeller also creates a safer place for wakeskaters and wakesurfers since they are close to the stern of the boat. Stop by to see our boats for sale at the Lake of the Ozarks and we can help you find the right one for your watersports needs! Check out a few of our featured boats for sale below:

Lake30

Look for Lake30 in our retail store soon. This is a true lake lifestyle brand. After living on a houseboat and loving being on the water, the owners of Lake30 bought countless shirts from every vacation destination, just to be disappointed how stiff and boxy they were. So they started making their own, which became popular with their friends and family. They eventually created Lake30, which simply means, "It's Lake Time!" The brand encompasses some of the most comfortable apparel mixed with fun lake necessities!

Giving Back is a driving force behind Lake30. In addition, to helping numerous local charities, Lake30 selected Canine Companions for Independence as their primary non-profit to honor a one-of-a-kind person and a special dog who inspired them living the Lake30 way...relaxed, simple, happy and always giving back. 10% net profits are donated to Canine Companions for Independence who provide highly trained assistance dogs for children and adults living with disabilities, free of charge, since 1975!
